The Airshed Foundation is being established as an independent, global, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to advancing open standards for atmospheric measurement, reconciliation and verification.
The atmosphere is observed through many different systems, from satellites and aircraft to ground-based measurements and scientific inventories. Each provides valuable evidence, but understanding atmospheric change requires transparent methods for bringing these different perspectives together across borders and scientific disciplines.
The Foundation's purpose will be to support the development and stewardship of open scientific frameworks that improve confidence, traceability and trust in atmospheric data.
The Airshed Foundation will provide an independent global home for open methodologies that enable diverse atmospheric observations to be reconciled through transparent and scientifically rigorous approaches.
The Standard sets out a framework for bringing together different sources of atmospheric evidence, carrying uncertainty through the process and improving confidence in the resulting assessments.
The methodology will be openly available for researchers, policymakers and organisations around the world to examine, apply and improve.
The Foundation's purpose will be to advance scientific integrity, collaboration and public confidence in understanding our shared atmosphere.
The Foundation will publish Standards, research outputs and policy submissions as they are finalised.
New Standard revisions and submissions will be added to the public register as they are published.
The Airshed Foundation is intended to operate as an independent, global, not-for-profit organisation with governance structures designed to protect scientific integrity and transparency.
Future governance arrangements will support independent stewardship of the Standard and ensure that its development remains open, rigorous and subject to scientific scrutiny.
